What’s Your Favorite “What if…”?

by Adele Woodyard
No matter how satisfactory our personal lives are, there’s always something we’d like to see changed. Right now the emphasis on the coming election. If you’re anything like me, you’ve become so fed-up with the four-year Republican-Democrat battles you’d like to throw them all out and start anew. Since that’s virtually impossible, I’d like you to join me in an equally illusionary game of “What if…” My own tongue-in-cheek version goes like this:
What if:
a. each state, no matter its size or population, was limited to three Representatives—one Democrat, one Republican and one Independent—and one elected Senator, no particular party?
b. all monetary care of the senior, sick, disabled and indigent was the sole responsibility of the Federal government?
c. there were universal rules for hospitals, nursing homes, handicapped and homeless establishments?
d. each state was financially responsible for everything else within its own border?.
e. saving money included elimination, or at least reduction, of the three P’s—Pork, Pacs and Patronage?

How about you? I’d love to read your “what ifs “ considering today’s political scene, the more far out the better. So send in your ideas under Comments. Who knows? They may show up as a White Paper, or essay for publication. Or in Facebook.
For the record I was a registered Republican in New Jersey, and Democrat in Florida, but my vote has always been as an Independent (thinker). Had to put that qualifier in, lest I be turned away at the polls!
Come to think of it, the Republican symbol is an elephant, the Democrats a donkey (aka “ass”). However, Republicans now seem to spell GOP as GOOP (Grand One and Only Party). Any ideas what symbol/slogan an Independent party would have?
Enough already. I promise next week’s blog will return to vacationing in Florida—with maybe a short blurb on my next book, Final Payment featuring murder in Tampa.
